That moment you dream about…
If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you probably already know that a few weeks ago Danny asked me to change my last name forever!!
But before I go into all the details, I’m going to back it up a bit and share a bit of our story, because just sharing the proposal really wouldn’t be doing this story any justice. This story is a story of hope, grace, and redemption.
It all started six months ago (yes, only 6) when I least expected it.
After going through a hard time in my life several months ago when everything seemed gray, my mom encouraged me to start reading Jesus Calling. I suddenly noticed that this guy that I would follow on social media would conveniently post Jesus Calling literally every morning! So what did I do? I started to read his posts every morning & low and behold it was just what I needed at that time. So finally I asked a close friend “who is this Jesus Calling guy?” And her response was, “wait, y’all haven’t met? I’m changing that right now!” Turns out we had tons of mutual friends. One phone call later, and we were going to a Mavs game. After that first date, we were smitten.
Neither one of us are perfect or have perfect stories, but I think that’s what attracted us to one another. The authenticity. We both have been through things in life that turned our world upside down. We’ve both hit points when we felt overwhelmed and like it was all too much, but neither of us gave up. Instead we handed it to God, knowing that only he could pick up our broken pieces and make something beautiful. And that’s exactly what He did.
Every night for 5 years, Olive and I would pray that God would provide a husband for me and a dad for her. I knew he was capable of it, but after 5 years you start to doubt. Funny thing is, at the very beginning of this year I was asked to select a verse of the year for a collaboration and God put on my heart the verse “Now unto Him who is able to do immeasurably more than anything we could ever ask for or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. To Him be the glory” Eph 3:20. I didn’t know why at the time, but now it couldn’t be more clear! Not only did he provide a dad, but the best dad I could ever imagine or ask for for her and the man of my dreams! It’s been so humbling to how He took the puzzle pieces of our lives and turned them into the most beautiful mosaic masterpiece (thanks Aunt Jamie)! He has turned my life into something much more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.
I write all of this, because sometimes I think we all need to be reminded how God is able to work all things for good and take all of our puzzle pieces of of our life as broken as they might seem at times and make something beautiful. Something far more wonderful than we could have ever imagined!
So now onto the gushy stuff…Danny and I had been talking about getting engaged for a little over a month, so I knew it was coming but had no idea when or how! A few days before he had told me that he was going to get season tickets to the Dallas Mavericks with a client of his and he wanted me to go with him to the American Airlines Center to help pick the seats. I thought it was a little weird. I didn’t know you could go to the stadium and just try out all the seats, but hey, I’m a girl…what do I know about that stuff ha so I went with it! We got to American Airlines stadium and he just walks right in and everyone there goes along with it. I’m standing there like um, can we do this? Shouldn’t we wait for your client? Danny clearly wasn’t too worried about that though. We walk into the arena and I see on the jumbotron, “Liz, will you marry me?” He then takes me right next to the seats we sat in on our first date and pops the question! I of course said yes!
Then we went to the restaurant that we went to on our first date, Urban Taco, for our surprise engagement party! I can’t tell you just how much it meant to see a room full of friends and family who have been supporting us and praying for us over the years. It was a true celebration!
We couldn’t be more excited about this next stage in our lives! We want to thank you all for all of your congratulations and sweet words of encouragement!! They mean the world to us!!
