If you follow me on Instagram or on Facebook, you know that I had the best little spur of the moment weekend getaway with the hubs this past weekend. Danny had some hotel credits and the grandparents jumped at the opportunity to spend time with Olive (who wouldn’t?), so before we knew it, we were on a plane to Vegas! Danny played blackjack, I lounged like it was going out of style, we shopped, ate like kings and queens (STK at the cosmopolitan – it’s a must!), and even got to sneak a show in there! It was magical.

While we were gone, we couldn’t help but stand back, look at our lives and just talk about how good God is. Seriously! It’s crazy to think about just how much he has blessed us lately and answered our prayers FAR beyond anything we were dreaming! If you know either of us, you know that we’re both well aware of the fact that life is a roller coaster ride. You have your ups and your downs, your highs and your lows. And trust me, we’ve seen low lows…but right now we just so happen to be in a very high, high! We just got married, Olive is healthy and happy, and we are in the process of buying a house! Having been through those lows, it makes this time that much sweeter though. We talked about how we want to treasure this time, enjoy it for what it is, and make sure not to take a moment for grated.

As we were flying home to Dallas, something funny happened.  We started talking about our upcoming weeks, the things we needed to work on, and before you know it, I caught myself in that crazy cycle. Worry about what’s next, worrying about how I’ll get things done, thinking about all the balls I’ve dropped, and it dawned on me. Here I am talking about how these are the golden years, probably some of the best years of my life right in front of me, and I’m worrying. Letting the enemy steal my joy from these precious moments all because I’m getting caught up in the endless to-dos that we all have or chasing after the “next thing”. What a waste that is!

That’s when I decided to make a change. I can’t promise that I won’t ever give into that crazy cycle and won’t ever worry about anything ever again, but I can promise to try my hardest not to. That’s when I decided to give myself a challenge. This week I challenged myself to start off the week by listing all the things in my life that I’m thankful for instead of all the things I needed to do. I want to challenge you to do the same! No matter the season you’re in right now, a high or a low, there are always things that you can list that you’re thankful for. Focus on those. Choose to rewire your brain to trust God and thank Him for all the ways he has provided in your life. By doing this we’ll focus our mind on the real source of joy no matter the season and put our hearts and minds at rest to be able to enjoy the things we do have.

I have a funny feeling that this little challenge is just the beginning of something and something God is teaching me.
